Scott J. Hamilton is associate pastor of Church of the Open Arms. A native of Oklahoma City, Scott grew up in the Presbyterian Church. He moved to New York in 1986 where he began a journey that included significant service to churches and ample work in issues of social justice.

Scott was ordained as a Deacon in the Collegiate Church in 1990, as an Elder in 1992 and, finally, as Preaching Elder in 1995. He was a guest preacher at many congregations throughout New York and New Jersey before being called to serve a yoked ministry of two United Church of Christ congregations, Grantwood Congregational Church and Morsemere Community Church, in Bergen County, NJ.

While living in New York, Scott was a frequent guest lecturer at Columbia University, New York University, Rutgers University, City College of New York, and Princeton University. He has a long history of advocating for underserved populations including persons in recovery, LGBT elders, inner-city impoverished children, and persons living with HIV and AIDS in New York, Kenya, Zambia, South Africa, and Haiti.

Scott returned to Oklahoma in December of 2009 and joined the staff of Church of the Open Arms earlier this year. Scott also serves as the executive director of the Cimarron Alliance, a member of the Oklahoma Mental Health Planning and Advisory Council, the Central Oklahoma Human Rights Alliance, and the Add Us In Consortium. He and his husband, Wayne, just celebrated their 20th anniversary.
